Steps to Follow Early on When Working with a Moving Company

Moving can be an overwhelming endeavor. In fact, it is often considered one of the life’s most stressful experiences. However, the easiest way to make the process more manageable is to break it down into achievable steps starting a few weeks before your big move.

Step 1
Go through each room of your house and sort through what items will go with you and which ones will not before you get an estimate of the cost of your move from a moving company. Chicago movers recommend that you rid yourself of unwanted items by having an online auction or a garage sale, which will make your load lighter come moving day. You may also wish to donate any unwanted clothing or furniture as well as household goods, such as dishes, bedding, pots and pans, to a local charity.

Step 2
At about four weeks before the move date you schedule with the moving company, notify your moving agent if you have decided to subtract certain items from your move or add items to your move. Be sure to let your agent know if you need to change your move date, and ensure that the company has your destination address as well as phone numbers with which you can easily be reached. If you are planning to move your car as well, you will have to drive the vehicle to a loading site. You’ll also need to pick up your vehicle at the destination location. Your moving agent can easily guide you through this process.

Step 3
It is imperative that you make travels plans for any pets you have as well. These plans should be in place at about two weeks before you plan to move officially. It’s wise to confirm these plans at this time, whether you are planning to board your pets or have them stay with friends or family. If you are boarding your animals, be sure they have all required inoculations or health certificates. It is also important to pick up any items currently being repaired, cleaned or stored somewhere else. Finally, confirm your moving plan with your move coordinator so that moving day will go off without a hitch.
